District 7 Book Project

At the International Change of Watch meeting in 2017, then President Sandi Durieux reported that the

book project being discussed was too large of a project to take on as an international project. She asked

for one District to step up and get it started.  District 7 volunteered and we have donated to 3 schools

over the last 2 years and plan to donate to another 3 schools this year.

There are no guidelines in place for this project so we have been making our donations based on the needs

of the school.  Our first year we were introduced to Bio Med School in Ravenna Ohio.  This was a start-up

school and they were trying to stock a library.  We donated $500 to the school and they were able to

purchase 118 brand new hard cover books for the library.

In our second year IOBGA international gave us $100 and our Gavel gave us $500 toward the project.  We

chose 2 schools, Broadmoor School and Painesville Local schools both in Ohio.  Broadmoor is a school for

special needs children of all ages.  They were able to add around 100 new books to their library.  Painesville

took the $500 and purchased over 300 books to supply their summer book box program, a program

intended to keep students reading throughout the summer.

Belated Farewell

Past President
Lucille Ellen Anthony
December 23, 1940-July 5, 2019

We bid farewell to our own International Order of the Blue Gavel Auxiliary Past President Lucille Ellen Anthony, who has embarked on her final voyage.

Her life was abundant with accomplishments from working many years in the savings and loan business, to having a second career working in the Solano County Sheriff’s Office where she retired in 2011, to serving as our leader from 2010-2011. Lucille was an outstanding member of her community and volunteered work at the David Grant Medical Center Chaplain’s office.

She enjoyed boating, traveling and also belong to several yacht clubs over the years.

She will be truly missed by all, especially her husband of 44 years, John Anthony along with her children and grandchildren.

We bid you “hail and farewell” shipmate, until we drop anchor beside you at the last Great Rendezvous.

The IOBG Auxiliary was formed in the late 1980's by the Past Commodores' spouses and has over 400 members in three countries. We strive to preserve the traditions, customs and ethics of yachting so that they will not be lost to those yet to come.
